Australia Day in Narrandera Shire

Australia Day 2025 will be marked with a series of exciting events across Narrandera Shire, offering something for everyone. From the official Awards Ceremony to family-friendly activities, the day promises to celebrate the community, culture, and fun. 

Australia Day Awards Ceremony

This year's awards ceremony will be held at Marie Bashir Park commencing at 8.30am. Everyone  is invited to a free community breakfast being held from 7.30am for a delicious bacon and egg roll with a beverage being prepared by Narrandera Lions Club. 

The ceremony will open with an Acknowledgement of Country in language by Tahlia Gilbert and a dance presentation for the young Wiradjuri Dancers trained by Tahlia. Musical performances by Belinda Shanahan will be given throughout the ceremony and the flag raised by Narrandera Air Cadets. 

The Narrandera Sporting Awards, Junior, Senior, and Team awards will be given out prior to the Australia Day Awards. Awards this year include Disability Advocate, Organisation of the Year, Senior Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Citizen of the Year.

2025 Survival Day March

In its third year, the Narrungdera Survival Day March led by Narrungdera NAIDOC Committee, will leave the Ambulance station at 10.30am and progress down East Street to Memorial Park for a ceremony including dance, music, and speeches. it is a celebration of the oldest continuous culture and a supporter of the motto of the day, Reflect, Respect and Celebrate - We're all Part of the Story. 

Australia Day at Barellan

To be held at Barellan Pool from 11am to 2pm, you can enjoy a community BBQ, bush poetry, music by Belinda Shanahan, games, and free pool entry all day. bring the family for a fun and entertaining day at Barellan Pool.

Australia Day at Grong Grong

Commencing at 12pm in Grong Grong Park for the local Flag Raising and a few speeches, the event then moves to the Royal Hotel from 12.30pm to 3pm for a community BBQ, yabby races, and games. This is a family event, and all are welcome to join in the fun. If you haven't tried yabby racing yet join with Grong Grong Fishing Club for a great afternoon. 

Kayaking on Lake Talbot

From 12pm to 4pm, take the family down to Lake Talbot Boat Ramp for free kayak hire on Lake Talbot. The team from Lake Talbot Tourist Park will set you up to explore Lake Talbot and the riverine area west to the Rocky Waterholes bridge. 

Australia Day Concert and Dance

Come into the air-conditioned comfort of the CRC Church Hall from 1pm to 4pm and enjoy a free concert of great country music performed by David Dunbar (The Tin Shed Rattlers) and Lawrence Barlow (Lollipop). Dance the afternoon aware, suitable for all ages. Refreshments available onsite. 

Australian Movies

Next door at the Plaza Theatre (CRC Church) where two movies will be showing from 1pm Oddball. rated PG. A great family movie about an eccentric chicken farmer, who with the help of his granddaughter, trains his mischievous dog Oddball to protect a penguin sanctuary from fox attacks. 

At 3pm June Again, rated M will be showing, starring Noni Hazelhurst. The plot is during a fleeting bout of lucidity from her dementia, June has previous little time to bring together her estranged children, save the family business and rekindle an old flame. 

Refreshments including popcorn will be available form the kiodk onsite. 

Wiradjuri Art Workshop and Afternoon Tea

Hosted by Sandfill's Artifacts, join us from 1pm to 4pm at Narrandera Arts and Community Centre for an interactive art workshop to try your hand at painting using Wiradjuri art styles and techniques. After the workshop stay on to display your creation and have afternoon tea with the Bush Tucker Sweet Treats workshop participants for a delicious end to the afternoon.
